Beach Safety

The Best Beach Trip is a safe one!

While swimming in the Gulf is so fun, Gulf waters can be very dangerous. Surf conditions can overwhelm even the best swimmer. We want to ensure the vacation memories you take home are happy ones! Please take some time to review the follow information ahead of your next visit to the beach!

Daily Weather & Surf Conditions:

  • Text “ALBEACHES” to “888777” to sign up for daily surf conditions text alerts. Text “Stop” to opt out of notifications upon your departure.
  • For additional weather alerts and warnings for the local area, text ALERTBALDWIN to “888777”. At the end of your vacation, opt out of the text alerts by texting “Stop”.

Beach Warning Flags:

  • Yellow: Moderate surf and/or currents
  • Purple: Dangerous Marine life
  • Red: high surf and/or strong currents
  • Double Red: Water closed to the public

Know your limitations

  • Learn to swim, non-swimmers should stay out of the water
  • Don’t overestimate your swimming ability
  • Don’t rely on inner tubes, floats, or other inflatable toys
  • Use Coast Guard approved life jackets
  • Designate a water-watcher and supervise children closely
  • Never swim alone

Lifeguards are stationed seasonally at all public beaches in Gulf Shores & Orange Beach March through September. Currently, no lifeguard protection is available in the Fort Morgan area.

If you or someone else is in trouble, call 9-1-1.
