Hey friends—it’s Alicia from Blue Palm Getaways, and I’ve got to share one of the coolest family adventures we’ve had during our Gulf Shores vacation: Alligator Alley in Summerdale, Alabama.
If you’re looking for something unique (and a little wild!) to add to your Gulf Shores family vacation, this gator farm is absolutely worth the short drive north.
What is Alligator Alley? A Unique Gator Farm Near Gulf Shores
Alligator Alley is a hands-on alligator farm and rescue in Summerdale, AL, just about 30 minutes from Gulf Shores and Orange Beach. It’s home to hundreds of alligators of all sizes—from tiny babies to huge adults you can see up close from safe, elevated walkways.

Know Before You Go: Check Hours & Feeding Times
Alligator Alley is a seasonal attraction, so be sure to check their website for current hours and live feeding times before you visit.
👉 We timed our visit to catch the live feeding show first—and it was totally worth it!
Our Experience: Watching the Live Alligator Feeding
Watching those giant gators chomp down their food was both thrilling and fascinating. My kids were wide-eyed the whole time! The farmers share fun facts during the show, making it both entertaining and educational.
Safely Feeding the Gators (A Hands-On Activity!)
After the live feeding, we explored the walking paths and elevated bridges over the gator habitats. You can buy a cup of alligator feed (not quite sure what’s in it, but those gators love it!), and safely toss it down to them from the platforms.
The whole setup felt really safe for families—there are sturdy railings, fences, and elevated walkways keeping visitors protected while offering amazing views of the gators below.
👉 It’s a fun, interactive way for kids to experience wildlife safely.

Meet the Experts: Learning About Alligator Rescue & Conservation
One of my favorite parts was chatting with the gator farmers working there. They knew so many of the alligators by name and shared stories about how they rescue gators from overpopulated or unsafe areas, relocating them to the farm for care and protection.
It was really inspiring to hear about their conservation efforts—and the kids loved hearing each gator’s unique story!

Unforgettable Moment: Holding a Baby Alligator
Towards the back of the farm, we got to one of the coolest parts: my kids held a baby alligator! (Don’t worry—it was totally supervised and safe.)
Their smiles said it all. It’s something they’ve been bragging about to their friends ever since, and honestly? I kind of loved it too!
Educational Fun: Great for School Groups & Field Trips
While we were there, several school buses of kids on field trips were visiting. It’s clearly a popular spot for educational tours and group outings.
Even with the crowds, the park never felt too busy since everything’s spread out along the walkways and observation areas.
